I will be presenting “Joseph Smith, Polygamy, and the Problem of the Levirate Widow” at the American Academy of Religion meetings in San Francisco this November. The talk pursues arguments from Chapter 8 of the book, specifically examining ways that the problem of remarriage after bereavement figured into the conceptual infrastructure of early Mormon polygamy.
